What Epic blocks,
and why it matters.

Incognito mode, browser add-ons and a VPN each leave gaps. Epic closes them by default, with nothing to configure.

Using incognito mode? Add-ons? A VPN? You still need Epic.

You're tracked by Google, your ISP, your government and hundreds of data collectors while in incognito or other private browsing modes. Your browsing history is easily accessible via your DNS cache after the incognito window closes.

Behind a VPN, your real IP address can leak through certain WebRTC calls. Epic blocks them. Even with your IP hidden, tens of thousands of websites fingerprint you through image canvas data and other signals. Epic blocks those too, which no extension can do.

Any browser add-on has access to your entire browsing and search history. Many collect and sell it. Add-ons can reduce your privacy rather than enhance it.

Visiting the top 50 websites installs over 3,000 tracking files on your computer.

Over 80% of websites use one or more tracking tools. We've found an average of six per website, rising to a dozen or more on larger sites. ISPs such as Verizon and Comcast are allowed to save and sell your browsing history.

In the $100+ billion advertising industry, a one percent additional yield means an extra billion dollars a year, hence the massive incentive to track you.

Epic protects you from over one thousand tracking attempts in a typical session. Over a year, that's hundreds of thousands of bits of data about you.

Epic blocks or spoofs as many tracking methods as possible without breaking the internet, and much of what Epic blocks speeds up your browsing.

From the perspective of hundreds of ad and data collection companies, you are the product, waiting to be sold to advertisers. The industry leader alone processes 50 trillion data transactions a year, yielding revenues of over $1 billion. All from selling your data.

Why privacy matters.

Surveillance leads to self-censorship.

When you know you're under surveillance, you are less likely to explore controversial topics or share minority opinions. Studies have found writers and those with minority views already self-censor after learning the extent of online surveillance.

“Mass surveillance silences minority opinions, according to study.”The Washington Post

Online data is merged with offline data and sold.

Personally identifiable data from the online world is merged with offline data every day, according to the head of global privacy at Acxiom, a leading data collection firm.

“Websites vary prices, deals based on users' information.”The Wall Street Journal

Online advertising is a $100+ billion business.

Your age, race, sex, weight, marital status, education, politics, buying habits, wealth, health issues and search queries are collected and sold by data aggregators millions of times every second on ad exchanges.

“We know where you are. We know where you've been. We can more or less know what you're thinking about.”Former CEO of the world's leading search engine

You would never let anyone stalk you in real life.

Imagine hundreds of people following you around your work, your home and the stores you visit, writing down everything you do. That's what happens every time you browse in an ordinary browser.

Your data decides what you're offered.

Browsing data is used to decide insurance eligibility, prices, and job applications.

“[Data collected through your browsing can determine] whether you can obtain a job, credit or insurance.”The New York Times

How Epic protects you.

Everything below is on by default.

Comprehensive ad and tracker blocking

Built-in protection against thousands of tracking scripts, tracking cookies, ad networks, cryptomining scripts, malvertising and third-party widgets. Epic never collects, shares or sells any data from its users.

Fingerprinting protection

Epic blocks or spoofs dozens of fingerprinting scripts and methods such as image canvas, font canvas and audiocontext access, plus ultrasound signals sent to coordinate tracking with your phone. Control each setting from the umbrella button.

WebRTC IP leak blocking

Epic blocks the WebRTC calls that can leak your real IP address, even when you're behind an encrypted proxy or VPN.

Extreme privacy by default

No tracking IDs. No web cache. No DNS pre-fetching. No third-party cookies.

Optional always-on private mode

Use Epic as a traditional browser with strong default privacy, or set it to delete everything on close: cookies, history, local storage, databases, visited links, extension states and more.

Local address bar autocomplete

Epic autocompletes URLs from a database stored on your computer. Other browsers send what you type to their servers, so they know virtually every search and site.

Referer header not sent

Epic doesn't send the search terms you entered to the websites you click through to from a search engine.

Do Not Track always on

We ask every website not to track you. We also actively block them from doing so.
